The open, highly aerobic 3-dimensional structure of Matala filter media promotes healthy water conditions and ease of cleaning in a wide variety of designs, making it the ideal "drop-in" media for vortex and barrel filters. This filter material is simply the most effective, longest lasting, and crush-resistant option available today. Easily trimmed to fit a variety of skimmers and filters, such as Aqua cape, Savio, American, Easy Pro, Laguna, Cyprio/Hozelock, and more, the Matala filter media is specially sized for round vortex or barrel filters, measuring 22" in diameter and 6" thick.

The Matala filter media features a choice of densities, allowing for a step-wise transition from mechanical to biological filtration. It boasts excellent surface area per square foot with good adhesion of nitrifying bacteria, and a high number of interstitial spaces in the tri-dimensional matrix, which improves early and even growth of bacteria. The high free volume ensures smooth, even water flow throughout, and the media is very resistant to plugging and easy to clean.

The mats are self-supporting, form-stable, rigid, and non-brittle, making them easy to peel away layers and cut to fit with a heavy-duty scissor, utility knife, circular saw, or jig saw. The Matala filter media is non-toxic to the environment and lightweight, making it a versatile and durable option that can last for many years, up to 6+ (2-5 times longer than any other mat on the market).
